Our Paper Is Green.
Without sacrificing quality, ADA Times selects paper stock that is Elemental Chlorine Free, which virtually eliminates dioxin in mill waste water. Not only is it recyclable, but our stock also uses three times the standard reclaimed fiber content for recycled coated printing paper. The paper manufacturer, which participates in certification programs such as the Sustainable Forestry Initiative and the Forest Stewardship Council, also partners with its local energy company to use “green power,” or electricity generated by renewable resources—specifically, 10 percent wind power, 85 percent hydroelectricity and 5 percent biogas.
Our Printer Is Green.
In addition to being audited and certified to the Forest Stewardship Council Chain of Custody Standard, our printer makes significant investments in technology, operations and relationships with key suppliers. Specifically, our printer has eliminated all hazardous chemicals and Volatile Organic Compounds from its operations; updated all facility lighting to Orion Light Fixtures, significantly reducing energy demand; installed a new Regenerative Thermal Oxidizing unit to handle emissions from its heat-set web presses; and routinely conducts energy and operational audits to identify areas where change and investment may be needed. All of these components, which save energy and resources, also include monetary savings that are passed on to clients.
Our Process Is Green.
ADA Times continues to seek ways in which energy and resources can be reduced in its editorial, layout and production phases. For example, vendors such as photographers and designers submit digital files via FTP sites to eliminate a shipping footprint; writers and editors follow an electronic editing process to reduce paper consumption; and alterations between ADA and its ADA Times printer are reviewed and approved online.
