American Dietetic Association Names Ulric Chung Senior Director of Education Accreditation

CHICAGO – The American Dietetic Association has named Ulric Chung, PhD, a nationally known authority on distance learning in pharmacy education, curriculum development and evaluation, as the senior director of ADA’s Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education.
“We are delighted to welcome Ulric Chung to ADA,” said Ronald S. Moen, chief executive officer of the American Dietetic Association. “His outstanding record of achievement and innovation in health professional education – especially the ever-increasing importance of technology and distance learning – will be of immense value in designing the highest-quality curriculum and producing the best-qualified students for the dietetics profession of ADA’s second century.”
Chung currently is Assistant Executive Director of the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education, the national agency for the accreditation of professional degree programs in pharmacy and providers of continuing pharmacy education. Previously, he was a faculty member at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Pharmacy, where he integrated multimedia technology into the college’s curriculum; developed interactive and multimedia course materials; and designed interactive learning facilities and labs.
Chung has also worked as an interactive-multimedia developer at the Video Laboratory at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s Language Learning Lab and has received several grants, including one from the U.S. Department of Education, to develop artificially intelligent, multimedia simulations for teaching patient care.
Chung is a graduate of the University of Illinois, where he earned a master’s degree in computer science and a doctorate in curriculum and instruction. He is also a certified high school foreign language instructor.
The Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education is ADA’s accrediting agency for education programs preparing students for careers as registered dietitians or dietetic technicians, registered. CADE establishes and enforces eligibility requirements and accreditation standards that ensure the quality and continued improvement of nutrition and dietetics education programs and accredits programs that meet those standards. CADE is recognized by the United States Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, affirming that CADE meets national standards and is a reliable authority on the quality of nutrition and dietetics education programs.
