Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology California State University Fresno, California |
I am passionate about developing sustainable food systems. The need to have a global perspective about sustainable food systems has never been more critical to economic, environmental or social survival. I have committed to enhancing the awareness of students about this issue. In the College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, I work with all agriculture entities to make certain that one of the most important outcomes of any sustainable food system is optimal nutritional health.
How have you promoted ADA's mission/vision/values?
I promote ADA's mission/vision/values by being a role model and spokesperson. During my 33 years as an ADA member and Registered Dietitian, there have been very few periods of time when I was not in a volunteer position in my local district, state affiliate or national association. As a dietetics educator, I have had the opportunity to teach the mission, vision and values of ADA to many students and support their goals as dietetics professionals.
In assessing your skills, which ones do you think best prepare you to be an ADA leader and why?
The skills that best prepare me to be an ADA leader are my people skills, communication skills and problem solving skills. I am committed to understanding the whole person and their motivation. I maintain an open mind and objectivity about all points of view without being judgmental. I enjoy the challenge and the satisfaction of finding a solution to a situation that is mutually beneficial to all parties whenever possible.
