Issue Impacting the Profession
Fostering talent, leadership and diversity (skill, gender, ethnic, age) across our professional is essential to our success. A dynamic and diverse profession enables us to compete in the global environment. I strive to foster these traits in others and give back to the Association by volunteering my time and resources. Some of these activities include mentoring students and new professionals, participating on ADA task forces and governing body, and seeking election to the Nominating Committee.
How have you promoted ADA's mission/vision/values?
Recent work with the ADA Strategic Planning Task Force has given me an opportunity to assess how I, personally, promote ADA's mission, vision and values. I promote these things via my volunteer work with the association, the community and students; maintaining professional integrity; and my overall commitment to advancing the profession. In addition, my passion for the profession and our individual ability to lead in the future of dietetics overflows into all of these activities.
In assessing your skills, which ones do you think best prepare you to be an ADA leader and why?
My top five skills include leadership, strategic thinking, inspiring others, building consensus and communication. As an ADA leader, these skills are important in order to foresee future needs, communicate them effectively with others, inspire change and be willing to take personal action to continue moving our profession and the Association forward.
