Associate Dean and Professor, Food Science and Nutrition Central Washington University Ellensburg, Washington |
I feel driven to:
- Educate the next generation of dietetics professionals so they are equipped to provide effective medical nutrition therapy. This will positively affect the profession and impact issues such as jobs and salaries.
- Have an impact on child health to increase activity and reduce obesity now and in the future. My work as an educator, researcher and policy maker in the ADA have been devoted to these issues.
How have you promoted ADA's mission/vision/values?
I have worked as a member and chair of the Association Positions Committee and now I am on the Evidence Based Practice Committee. I accepted these positions because I felt they were integral towards leading the future of dietetics to make ADA members the most valued source of food and nutrition services available. I feel the ADA does a great service to its members and the population in general by providing comprehensive information through committees such as the APC and EBPC.
In assessing your skills, which ones do you think best prepare you to be an ADA leader and why?
I am perceptive, persistent and patient. I realize that change is slow. But with a well-formulated plan and consistent effort, good things will eventually come. I also realize that the effectiveness of the whole takes many people working together as a team with a common vision and mission.
