Adolescent Nutrition: Making the Connection

Goal 1. To enhance the capability of health care providers to provide appropriate care for common nutrition-related issues of adolescents. The objectives include:

  • Increase awareness and improve knowledge and skills of health care professionals and students that complete online case study assignment for five nutrition related issues of concern to adolescent health.
  • Provide opportunities for the development of additional versions of the adolescent nutrition cases by PIPPAH partners and members of allied health professions.
  • Develop, distribute, and track use of credible messages and professional development activities about adolescent health to ADA members, PIPPAH partners, and professional groups and organizations.
Goal 2. To enhance the ability of professionals to assess factors in the community that can influence healthy weight for adolescents (realizing that these same factors may be key to other positive youth development areas). The objectives include:
  • Create a valid tool and support materials for health care professionals' use to asses factors in the community that relate to healthy weight of adolescents.
  • Increase skill level of health care professionals to assess factors in the community influencing health weight of adolescents.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the training and the tool to assist professionals in identifying factors that influence healthy weight of adolescents.
Goal 3. To enhance the interdisciplinary collaboration to improve adolescent health. Objectives include:
  • Enhance collaboration and information exchange between and among PIPPAH partners and professional groups involved in adolescent health.
  • Enhance ADA member interdisciplinary collaboration at the state and local level focused on improving adolescent health.
