Expanding the Alliance Healthcare Initiative — RDs’ Involvement

The Alliance for a Healthier Generation and the American Dietetic Association are delighted to be working together as part of the Alliance Healthcare Initiative. This collaborative effort with national medical associations, leading insurers, and employers will offer comprehensive health benefits to children and families for the prevention, assessment, and treatment of childhood obesity. This marks the first time that these diverse stakeholders have collaborated to combat childhood obesity. Participants in this effort include Aetna, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Dietetic Association, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, PepsiCo and WellPoint. Moving forward, all insurers and employers are invited to join the Alliance in this effort to address the childhood obesity epidemic.

We have received countless inquiries from registered dietitians across the country expressing their enthusiasm for this project and wanting to learn more about how to get involved. We invite you to get involved by recruiting insurers and employers in your community to sign on to the Alliance Healthcare agreement and become part of the solution of the childhood obesity epidemic.
