DSMT Recognized Program Information
The American Diabetes Association has deeming authority to accredit Diabetes Self-Management Training (DSMT) programs that are reimbursed under Medicare Part B.
Effective March 30, 2009, the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE) has been approved for recognition as a National Accreditation Organization for accrediting entities that wish to furnish diabetes self-management training to Medicare beneficiaries.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services also recognize the Indian Health Service (IHS) as a National Accreditation Organization for the purpose of determining that entities meet the necessary quality standards to furnish outpatient diabetes self-management training services under Part B of the Medicare program. IHS accredits DSMT programs on IHS, Tribal or Urban (I/T/U) Indian health care facilities and programs that have a formal agreement with a tribe or urban program to provide DSMT services.
